I visited Coeur d’Alene last year to support a relative in a sports competition. It is a touristy town with a definite air of menace about it. Bumper stickers on big trucks advising Californians to enjoy their trip home, etc. Too bad such a beautiful place is infested with such nasty people.

Idaho is also home to right wing militias and others of that ilk.

The comments by the person on stage were clearly disrspectful, one-sided, agenda driven. It's pretty clear that the meeting was intended for a certain group.

The bottom line is that Trump pardoned hundreds of criminals including those who took conspired to take arms against the US government (and got a 17 year sentence). The significance of that far outweighs the objectionable dust up at a Republican Town Hall. Repect for the rule of law used to be an honourable part of the conservative tradition. The modern Republican movement has shown definitively they no longer believe in it if it's conservatives who are breaking the law.

Rule of law was always code for "fuck those people we don't like". There's nothing honorable about conservatives or the "conservative tradition" and never has been.

By definition conservative politics is nothing but the protection, continuation, and expansion of unjust hierarchies and the violent repression of any attempt to change things or move towards a more just world.

To note: Trump pardoned people convicted of insurrection, Giving them "Aid or Comfort", actually both. per the 14th amendment doing this after having given his oath to the constitution, he is no longer able to "hold office".

Of course he has the Power to give pardons, he could not have given that clear and unambiguous "Aid or Comfort" without that power. Having the power to do something does not mean you get to use it for anything you want. Having the power of a gun, even if legally registered etc... does not mean you can get away with robbing a bank with it. The 14th amendment came after the pardon clause and therefore supersedes it. The facts are plain, obvious and public, and the 14th amendment does not require a legal conviction to enforce it.

So yeah, Trump is the leader of the Crime, Fraud and Insurrection party.

Wow. Just wow.

Like Hitler’s Brownshirts. (Sturmabteilungs)

Who were replaced by the Stormtroopers (Sturmtruppen)

Even the entertaining Star Wars franchise (gross of $10B) has failed to teach people that the Stormtroopers are the bad guys.

I live in Washington State and used to live in Montana, not at all surprised this happened in Coeur d'Alene. Northern Idaho is an absolute hotbed of neo Nazi's/anti government types/conspiracy theorists, it's a beautiful place scenery wise with a really ugly undercurrent. The commentary from the stage at this event was even uglier than the event itself, and was lapped up by a large part of the audience. Some really brave people live up there to openly oppose the very far right majority.

The rise of police goons who ignore the laws is terrible. I am much more scared of the deputizing Elmo's Idiots who haven't even taken an oath to the Constitution (whose contents they are entirely ignorant of even if the act of deputizing involves some kind of oath) and of the concept of a "Private army." Funny that no one dragged MTG on her back out for shouting out "liar" to Biden at the SOTU. The big new Right Wing word is "disrespectful" which apparently means disagreeing with you. Even as you spout lies.

Trump supporters that go by our anti-musk/Tesla rallies this year have an air of threatening powder keg violence that is palpable. We follow the law, permits, etc but I know the risk in chanting, showing signs, simply being there that might trigger the wrong rightwinger into plowing into us or worse. These emboldened trumpers are being fed more hate and lawlessness every day. They would sacrifice their freedom and humanity to vent their pentup, well fed anger.

Listening to the speaker at the event, guy was being a jerk. He was openly insulting her, mocking her. I can understand talking over her, he had the microphone and had a vision of how the event was going to happen, but the insults and such were not needed. His view of the event, despite calling it a discussion, was to present one side. Period. Her presenting the other side was definitely not on the agenda. It should have been billed as a political rally. At least then it would be obvious that no thoughtful discussion, or even adherence to facts (considering they were clearly Republicans), would be expected.

The scene opened with the guy saying something like "Doctors would no longer be forced to give abortions" Which by the way, never really happened. The laws in many states (probably theirs) is 'Doctors are now forced to NOT give abortions', so she called out "Women are still dying". He responded to her as "Popping off with stupid remarks". No respect given to the other perspective... The speaker felt threatened, having his carefully managed BS called out, so he escalated.

I am reminded of how Biden handled protestors and hecklers, inviting to talk with them after. Giving them respect, calming down the situation, allowing them a bit of time to get their message out, before proceeding with his speech.

The police actually were not to blame but dropped the charges. This woman should be talking to lawyers about suing the crap out of Norris and the venue who hired that security company.

Civilian security does not have the authority to manhandle peaceful people exercising their Constitutional right to free speech.

Norris believes: "sheriffs are the last line of defense between colonial-era concepts of liberty and freedom and a tyrannical federal government." while he is supporting a "tyrannical federal government".

My guess is he WANTS a tyranny but calls it tyranny when the federal government stops him from exercising his abuse of people who do not think like he does. He must be so much happier now.

Texas … and Florida … has the South finally won the war? Certainly they’ve both abandoned decency and honor to wear that damned Red Cap.
