That was informative. Why hasn't David Nir apperared earlier? In multiple interviews and in greater depth? He's clearly well worth it.

This is so kind of you, Michael! The answer is a simple one: Aaron and I were familiar with one another's work, but we've only recently gotten to know one another personally. I'm certain, though, that this will not be the last time we collaborate! In the meantime, I'd definitely encourage you to subscribe to The Downballot: https://www.the-downballot.com/subscribe

I fully agree with you. At the same time, while I was reading this, I was noticing how thinking about all of the races there are to worry about is tanking my mental health. Part of that is that I am also now reading The Bulwark and getting the Republican take on things, which I am usually sheltered from, since I live in Europe and only hang with Americans who are part of Democrats Abroad. It is a really anxious time, which I don't know whether the election will alleviate.

I reckon if Harris wins (which she's favoured to) you'll feel a lot better, Linda.

Nir is right. Here in Ohio I'm desperately hoping for a big D win in the supreme court. Having the governor's son on the supreme court is horrendous nepotism. How can he ever not recuse himself when his father is involved? But of course, he never does. This was a very helpful read today. Thank you.

Rick Scott (Florida) is a rabid supporter of Donald Trump. Scott wants to become Republican Leader in the Senate since Mitch McConnell is retiring from that position, & he’s hoping that the Republicans take the majority there so he could be in control. In 1988, Scott co-founded Columbia Hospital Corporation (later Columbia/HCA) which became the country’s largest for-profit healthcare company. During his tenure as chief executive, the company defrauded Medicare, Medicaid, & other federal programs. The company was fined $1.7 Billion dollars. During Scott’s deposition, he pleaded the fifth 75 times. He was pressured to resign by the Board of Directors. He left the company with a settlement of $9.88 million dollars, and he owned ten million shares of stock, then worth more than $350 million. He then became a venture capitalist. There is a lot more about how he is all-in for enriching himself rather than working for his constituents. He needs to be retired from politics & now is the time to vote him out.

Two Supreme Court Justices in AZ are up for retention. One is Clint Bolick, formerly a Goldwater Institute litigator. (Doug Ducey expanded and packed the court with hard right toadies.) The R majority (for 30 yrs) legislature had to go to bat for their quislings who upheld the 1864 abortion ban. R lawmakers sent a proposition to the ballot to turn judicial retention into lifetime appointments and made it retroactive to protect the judges and justices who are on the ballot this year.

The R dominated legislature DOES NOT want a Dem governor filling those positions.

Footnote: Bolick's wife is a Republican state senator
