The more I read about anti-democracy shenanigans in Georgia (and Arizona, and other places), the more I marvel that elections in this country are as free and fair as they are. Because Republican attempts to tilt the outcome in their favor never stop.

In addition to their plans on running out the clock, I'm afraid the chain will reach MAGA seated judges who'll further contaminate the issue with their own bad faith rulings.

And we all know how the corrupt, accountable to nobody SCOTUS would rule.

I'm not an expert, but in regard to this statement: "But the timing of these rules, which go into effect in September, virtually guarantee that the matter will be mired in litigation throughout the election — which is not an accident."

Maybe it would be mired throughout the rest of the campaign, but the Electoral Count Reform Act seems to anticipate and remedy this in a post-election context: https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/4573/text#toc-id71121A01FA134EDDB0F2402EDA1EBCC5

Any challenge brought by a victorious Harris-Walz Campaign for failure to certify in any county (and thus prevent the certification by the 12/11/24 deadline required by ECRA) must be heard expeditiously by a three-judge panel of one judge from the Northern District of Georgia and two from the (Conservative but not insurrectionist) 11th Circuit. Their decision can be appealed directly to the Supreme Court, which must either deny Cert or grant it and decide. This whole process must be complete by the meeting of the Electoral College on 12/17/24, including SCOTUS.

So even if the lawsuits and Kemp's attempt to toss the commissioners fail, Georgia would need to be certified in some form by December 17th after a very rapid consideration in Federal court. It's possible SCOTUS would screw around, but I'm not sure what that would look like in reality since the matter at issue would be the disenfranchisement of all voters in Fulton, Gwinnett, or another county which would have implications all up and down the ballot, not to mention the likely mass civil unrest if somehow Georgia were the deciding state (which is pretty unlikely to begin with).

Of course, the best recourse we have is to win MI, WI, PA, AZ, and NC and make this all academic.

I agree mostly but maybe moot, not academic.. there should be none of this cheating. it proves we need vigilance... er, or not even moot.

I would think Kemp would be extremely motivated to put this to rest, as he clearly has national aspirations. It’s one thing to be an election denier, another to be an election cheat.

How much lawlessness are Americans supposed to accept from state officials trying to steal people's votes? IN AZ, the fake electors are claiming their indictments "inhibit free exercise of First Amendment rights."

"Fourteen of the 16 remaining defendants in Arizona’s “fake electors” case told a Maricopa County judge that the signing and certification of a document assigning Arizona’s 11 electoral votes to Donald Trump rather than President Joe Biden in 2020 was an expression of the defendants’ First Amendment freedoms to petition the government."

Sorry, They had no first amendment right to steal the votes of Biden voters.

This is ridiculous! These new rules should not have been allowed to go into effect so close to a federal election.
