I'm not sure about that Erik. I don't know if you remember Dan Quyale, who made it to Vice President. Now there was a joke. Suffice to say not a man to be taken seriously. Vance is no joke. He's seriously bad news that tempts no one to laugh.

JD keeps being presented as some kind of very smart guy and yet all he comes across as is a jackass with a very mean spirit. I just wonder if his wife isn't somewhere in there wondering who the hell this awful creature is she's married to that looks for all the world like a man who hates women. And that thing about being valueless unless you have children, what the eff is all that about? No one would be surprised if that mind of his doesn't harbor just nothing but skeletons of thought.

This is a campaign that screams the need for therapy.

Granted Vance is a poor retail politician whose public persona is unfortunate...though perhaps not so if you root for the Democrats. But his problem is much deeper than that. His views are toxic and abhorrent. That's the only way to describe the idea that women are primarily and nearly exclusively valuable for their reproductive potential/achievements and that men and women's votes should count for less unless they had kids. Good Lord, what century are we in? These views would be considered off skew for most of the 20th century and would be recognized as backward looking by the vast majority of sensible people in that century too.

His selection seems to be based on the fact that he impressed Trump as a loyal and obedient side kick who would never threaten him for the lime light. As I have written before Trump chose a dud because Trump is a dud when it comes to judgement...and a lot of other things too.

Abhorrent behavior from the WHOLE RIGHT.

And now Vance has added to his repertoire that grandma's (post-menopausal of course) and grandpa's role in society is to provide child care for their grandchildren. It doesn't occur to him that that may still be working, or live too far away, or just plain don't want to.......

"...for them, humor is solely another form of exerting dominance over people who are more vulnerable." Most people have experienced being insulted by a bully who, when called out on it, insists it's just a joke. Same old, same old. According to JD Vance, I'm evil (retired academic), ruining the country (single cat lady), and worthless (post-menopausal woman who doesn't yet have grandchildren). Vance sees the value of women in terms of breeding only. When asked about his wife he described her as a good mother, which is a good thing, but not her raison d'etre. The thing that Vance cannot comprehend is that I don't care about his opinions because I don't value his way of thinking, and I'm not alone. It's also very telling that Vance doesn't call out childless men, or limit their role in life to being a breeder. The Trump-Vance ticket is the most openly anti-women ticket in history and I think they'll be genuinely surprised when the November results reveal what women think of them.

I think Stephen Miller is writing his "jokes".

"Upton herself was (ed. note - is?) a MAGA supporter who has shared Trump’s social media rants and posted anti-lockdown messages." Which is why I have no sympathy for her. Also too, how is this election even within 20 points?

Thank you for reminding us why if we work hard, we can win this election. The Lincoln Project does a nice comparison of the two campaigns as well in these ad videos. This one is called Sweet Treats. https://youtu.be/63iQh2-ZFU8?si=uQCrvcv191FMhMU5

This one here called Record. https://youtu.be/Ctq53YPkrF4?si=w8v5ciLgJpErqiEi

This one I love the title JV vs Varsity. https://youtu.be/wXCKxjFQuD8?si=p9Qx-pujymZWqlUM

There are many more that illustrates the differences between the two campaigns, but I want to share their latest, which comes on a day when we hear about Russian spies being caught with Republican party cohorts in election interference. It is called Job One. https://youtu.be/3mkMoKfdHAc?si=oHBzQdK_a5XbNt_z

Viva la Kamala!

Lincoln Project and Meidas Touch differ in approach but are both definitely experts at calling out MAGAts and their evil leader. I would have gone nuts during the 2020 election if not for seeing their ads and following Aaron’s Twitter feed (reassuring info AND baby photos 😄😘).

I agree, Meidas Touch is for those who already support the party and the Lincoln Project reaches out to people, which in this election is so important. Another group that has an even bigger subscriber base than LP and who makes ads and does shows is Now This Impact. Here is a link to their videos. https://www.youtube.com/@nowthisimpact/videos

Multiple Harris-Walz messages resonate with me. This recent one definitely caught my attention:

"The measure of a great leader is not about who you beat down; the measure of a great leader is who you lift up…."

"The media wants to get offended about a sarcastic remark I made ..."

The ultimate purpose of sarcasm is to hurt or humiliate the recipient. It is a negative, destructive voice, entirely different from irony. In that one defensive jerk of the knee, Vance confirms this post's thesis and the pathological need of today's GOP to punch down, belittle, oppress, rather than understand, empathize, make a constructive connection.

Excellent analysis, thank you. We in MN know Gov Walz to be a kind, intelligent, well-spoken leader and the contrast could not be clearer. I’m looking forward to the debates.

VANCE: Lookit Me! I make fun of poor teenaged girls from 17 years ago!

(hardy-har har.)

WALZ: A rally? Really?? I'm just here to go to Runza.

Vance reminds me of guys who exude toxic masculinity because they are insecure about their own masculinity. He also seems like the kind of guy who believed girls don't poop or fart as kid, and still thinks it's a funny joke.

Itʻs hard for me to feel afraid or scared of JD Vance. Iʻm old enough to be his mother, and I actually "had" and raised a bunch of kids. Why Republican men (and some Dem men too) think they "had" kids Iʻll never figure out! I also worked with kids and teens most of my adult life; I have a lot of instinct at this point to take charge of rambunctious kids. So my reaction is more motherly or teacherly--wanting to take him off in a quiet corner and give him a talking to and make sure he knows that there will be serious consequences if he keeps trashing women and girls.

If he were my kid, I hope I would have had the money to get him into serious therapy which he so clearly needs. I know logically heʻs a threat if MAGA wins, but he doesnʻt feel like a real threat to me because he acts like heʻs in middle school with his "jokes." He just seems like a really immature and insecure kid who needs help and boundaries. That he thinks he can tell grown women what to do is laughable- we reallly donʻt care what random 12 year old boys think. About anything, let alone about ourselves.

Trump, Iʻm more scared of even though heʻs also extremely immature because weʻve had a taste of what the people around him will do to drive our country off a cliff. But I canʻt figure out why his people didnʻt ever tell him, "No, thatʻs a stupid idea." Why did they sneak around him hiding papers from him in the White House, or why do they still placate his every dumb idea? The mom in me screams, "Just tell him NO! Whatʻs wrong with you people?!" Stephen Miller and the Trump spokespeople bring that attitude out in me too.
