If you happened to catch Rachel Maddow last night, you might have a different take on this story. The xenophobic, misogynistic, racist remarks align perfectly with a radical, right wing guy named Curtis Yarvin who literally said we need to get rid of all government and install a CEO, which he equates to a dictator. The vetting didn’t matter. This guy was handpicked to be Trump’s VP, though he would never be electable on his own. My theory is that Peter Thiel and other tech bros wanted to slide him into the White House alongside Trump, then once there, do something that would get Trump out of office, thereby installing Vance as President/CEO/dictator. This Yarvin guy said we need to get over our “dictator phobia.” Vance is the chosen CEO of America, not Trump who is just a stepping stone on the path to full integration of Project 2025. All conjecture on my part, obviously, but damn, it makes sense to me. And it’s terrifying.
Heather Cox Richardson isnt conspiracy minded. She thinks Vance was picked for vp by the heritage foundation to push project 2025 through the house & senate.
In preparation for the debate, which I will not be watching, although I wish Walz luck, and the final leg of the campaign, the Republicans against Trump like "The Lincoln Project" and Sarah Longwell's "Republican Voters Against Trump" have ads out. On the Bullwark they were saying it is interesting how it is predominantly Republicans 50 and older who are going for Kamala, and they said they thought that is because the youth voters came to the party because of Trump, but the older voters came for different reasons and the party does not look recognizable to them anymore.
Sarah Longwell says it is people filming themselves and she thinks the strength is in them not seeming slick. She is a very experienced political campaigner and these ads will appear in 48 states and on billboards too.
The Lincoln project has some new ones that I think are powerful in their truth.

Of course the Trump campaign didn’t find Vance’s comments re women disqualifying. Look at Trump’s comments on women! Also look at the judgement in the E Jean Carroll lawsuits.
The campaign believes that the American people are racist and racially insensitive. That we are xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, Islamophobic, and celebrating a culture that harms women. I hope they are wrong but as a lover of world history it is hard to deny the overt and subliminal impact white male supremacy has on the American psyche. Politics is about power and when the evidence of our changing nation became more apparent with historic elections and demographic changes exasperating between the parties, a lot of nascent bigotry was revealed that wasn't previously discuss or acknowledged in our national conversation. The Trump campaign is banking on the media, many Democrats, and Never Trump Republicans not understanding the fear that demographic changes have created in large swaths of a more homogeneous America and thus underestimating how ethnonationalism can be a powerful driver in American politics, as it has been in the past.
I am slightly skeptical of the whole dossier leak. I see people on Klippenstein's post saying 'well actually this shows that Vance is more of a centrist than we've been led to believe so I'm kind of leaning towards them now.' And if I had a VP pick that turned out to be really unlikable wouldn't that be the tactic that I'd choose? It seems as of people are much more likely these days to believe that they've obtained some secret knowledge that by virtue merely of being secret is therefore much more believable than the things Vance has been doing/saying right out in the open.
Well, of course! MAGA Republicans are relieved that Vance no longer is anti-Trump (or claims to be); as for his racism, xenophobia, misogyny, bigotry, Great Replacement partisanship … well, that’s just fine.
Blatant is best—anything else we can blame on George Soros, the Perfidious Jew (a party Vance has yet to disparage, as far as I know.

But with what experience? Tim Scott or Marco Rubio could’ve done the same thing but far more effectively.
See Seth Abramson's take on why Trump needs Vance for VP. It has to do with establishing a Trump dynasty with a loyal subservient Vance as a filler until The Trump kids can assume their political roles. https://sethabramson.substack.com/p/jd-vance-donald-trump-jr-elon-musk
Vance was hand picked by the heritage foundation. We shouldn’t hand waive that away. He was picked for a reason.

We need to be getting more young men to see Tim Walz, and Doug Emhoff as male role models who have respect for and can support strong women.
Great and powerful videos, Linda. Anyone who still supports these guys after all this is willfully ignorant IMO.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Linda, for posting these excellent ads. I hadn't seen them and everyone living in the US needs to.

I find it bizarre when people see Trump’s extremism as a mistake and not a feature of his words and deeds.
I'm pretty sure there wasn't a vetting. From what I understand, he was a favorite of the Trump brothers. They are incapable of vetting.
It sounds like they also missed his support of Peter Thiel’s advocacy for a installing a post-democracy regime through extra-Constitutional means

Here's another view on why Trump is perfectly happy to have Vance as his running mate: https://sethabramson.substack.com/p/jd-vance-donald-trump-jr-elon-musk
