I have to respectfully disagree with the premise of your post. President Joe Biden did the right thing in pardoning his son and he deserves no criticism for how he chose to do it. The wrongful prosecution of his son should never have been allowed to get this far. The prosecution was vengeful, vindictive and without legal basis or precedent. Merrick Garland, legal puritan that he is, should have put a stop to it. Joe Biden's pardon is righteous. He deserves full throated support for his action, not a sorry he's such a fuck up apology.

Title: Biden Pardoned His Son For Good Reason

There are too many complex and valid reasons for this act. Coyness has nothing to do with Cash Patel's threats to ruin Hunter Biden in any and every way he can. ENOUGH!

The header is "Biden pardoned his son for a good reason". It's not that he shouldn't have pardoned his son. The problem is Biden's utter cluelessness by stubbornly defending long dead norms, and insisting repeatedly he wouldn't pardon Hunter. Biden could have spoken out long ago about the bizarre fact that his son received felony charges for crimes which are almost never prosecuted. He shouldn't have waited until he offered a last minute pardon to finally explain these facts. Like many things Biden has done throughout his lifelong history in politics, it reeks of political self-dealing.

While it is unfortunate that the Right-wing dominates the mediascape, and apparently too many Americans are not able to see through this, I am someone who not only welcomes Biden pardoning his son, but would like to see him pardon a lot more people as is his right to do. In addition, I think he and his family should think about buying a house in Ireland if they have not done so already, and getting ready to get the H--- out of Dodge!

I don't believe that President Biden lied about whether or not he'd pardon his son. I think he changed his mind for the reasons discussed in this essay. There is a difference which is lost because Trump always lies and the media and pundits want to equate the two men. Can we please put this issue to rest and move onto the more important problems we face.

Fucking Democratic leaders crying in their socks over this. A glass eye in a duck's ass can see what's going on here. Enough is enough!! I will take a bullet for my children and my grandchildren. So, did Joe. Democrats bring a piece of cake to knife fight. King Shitpants pardoned a guy that turned around and murdered someone. And Garland?!!!! Useless. He should get a job at the NYT. He can bring his whitewashing brush with him. Fuck the purity test. King Shitpants could bomb a daycare center and his supporters wouldn't give two shits. They would blame the mothers for not being home with their kids. Spare my aching arse.

I could agree if this was less revealing of an unnerving obsession with defecation related language.

He needs to come out and say that he is his son and he is willing sacrifice more than he receives in order to make sure he is safe. There is not a world I could imagine where I wouldn't lay my life on the line in order to protect my child.

That's fine. You shouldn't run for President because I want someone who doesn't have the baggage of a son that needs to be bailed out from his criminality.

Circumstances change. A promise made under one set of circumstances may be withdrawn or otherwise modified. And let's face it, the circumstances definitely changed with the election of a convicted felon who vowed to send people to jail without cause. Governor Newsome has no reason to feel damaged.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always under the impression that

a) the scientific method is based on the ability to change one's views when new evidence emerges that supports the change (see: theory of ether in light propagation; Dr Fauci) and

b) that Democrats basically agree with this idea, in the realm of science and just thought in general.

Somewhere some Democrats have missed the point. On the subject of Biden's promises, new evidence did emerge: Ka$h Patel. A HUGE problem in the US is the unwillingness of people to change their minds in light of new evidence. That's why there is so much cognitive dissonance in the trump cult.

In some ways I wish that Biden had waited until after the sentencing. If it had been onerous, the case for political targeting would have been that much stronger. If it had been light, Hunter could have served his probation or whatever (he has already paid his restitution and stopped owning a gun). Whatever happened with the actual sentences, Biden could have given a full pardon for any OTHER "offenses against the United States" Hunter committed during the time frame (most of the allegations are past the statute of limitations, anyway) to prevent a pile on of Bondi and Patel.

But he pardoned when he did, and I fully support him in doing so. And I hope he hands out LOTS more pardons or commutations, particularly of death row inmates and those most likely to both be attacked by the Bondi-Patel hit squad and also unable to afford the costs of defending spurious charges.

There is nothing normal about any of this. While there have been onerous pardons in the past, T…p’s and many of his crazy cohorts continue to blather about this while conveniently avoiding discussion of those done during his first term. The threats alone, completely outside any degree of normalcy, need to be sidetracked. And President Biden can do this with carefully considered pardons. If T…p goes crazy about this, so be it. His might even have to concentrate on the job he was elected to fulfill.

The MSM can "obey in advance" and pretend that, even with a thoroughly corrupt SCOTUS that declared trump to be above the law, a sociopathic president who was elected on , "I'll be your vengeance" and an FBI pick with a PUBLISHED hit list, that we have an intact justice system. Pretending that we we do is just more sanewashing of the coming reign of state sponsored terror and lawless bullshit that would do putin proud.

"While Biden is being lambasted for pardoning his son, the fact of the matter is he’s actually gone above and beyond in his defense of norms, probably to the determent of the country."

This statement is 100% correct. We will all suffer, but vulnerable groups (women, LGBTQ+, immigrants, the elderly, the disabled, the unhoused, and the impoverished) will be exposed to far greater suffering. Biden's stubborn refusal to acknowledge the peril faced, not just in the US, but worldwide, is horrifying. Defending long dead norms, while refusing to act responsibly will be his legacy.

I predict that the tapes of Biden's deposition by Robert Hur, long sought by Republicans who believe the tapes will be embarrassing for Biden, will be released within minutes of Trump's inauguration. Biden has fought the release of the tapes, probably because the audio reveals how shockingly he has declined in the past 2 years. If Biden thinks he and his family will be saved from further humiliation, I believe he is in for an unpleasant surprise.

Joe Biden knew he had a son that conducted himself less than fully compliant with the law when he ran for office. Joe Biden knew his ability to campaign in 2024 was going to be a challenge. Joe Biden lied to us and did exactly the type of thing Democrats would accuse Trump of - using his Presidential power to give his family an unfair treatment.

I hate these sorts of excuses. There is no excuse - Biden should have sacrificed his family for the country if that was what he wanted as his legacy. Instead we'll look back upon him as someone that didn't do everything within his power to prevent another 4 years of Trump and acted Trump like when the opportunity arose.

Keep writing stuff like this and I'm unsubscribing. I'm already not going to give $ to any party organization or politician that airs support for Hunter's pardon.
