Another great article from PN, an article the main newspapers should have written. It is absurd to witness how the media keeps protecting the felon, and not a word in defence of Liz Cheney and others, who with guts and integrity stood up for democratic values. The dictatorship has started, no doubt, hopefully some common sense may pop up eventually! The “kissing the ring” attitude shows how greedy the wealthy people are, and fear of losing a dime or two. 🙄
We need to have hope and optimism and not despair too much - although easier said than done - but this too will pass.🌹🌹🌹
God helps those who, with righteousness and honesty, help themselves.
We can never give up or cease to resist this monster's quest--his THIRST--for revenge and total control. He exists for vengeance on anyone whom he says "insulted" him or hurt his fragile little fee-fees.
Trump wants to burn it all down--everything--to satisfy his many hatreds; his self hatred and his hatred of NYC's elite's rejection of his wonderful self and their refusal to admit him into their ranks, not to mention his hatred of women and POC.
Any or all of those gods would be fine with me. However, I could understand if they don't help us because we got ourselves into this disgusting mess and we're on our own to get us out.
That’s close to the truth. Careful thought on the story in scripture of the first humans shows that our Creator intended to be our educator in right and wrong, and warned us about the consequences of ignoring him. A narcissistic liar (a rebelling angel) induced us to choose “freedom,” and God decided that the best resolution was to let us go our way for a while, to prove which path is best: his or the Liar’s. Even if the Deceiver had stepped aside we would have failed, but with his continued propaganda of hate and division, we are now at the edge of the abyss. It is this moment God has been waiting for (not saying passively; all along he has provided guidance, but allowing us to accept or reject as we please). At the critical moment he will stop it.
One easy description of this is at Daniel 2:41-45. It describes the present situation quite accurately and clearly tells us what is next. There’s a lot more about this but just beware that evangelical fundamentalists vastly overcomplicate and spout utter nonsense about this, such as saying “everything is God’s will.” Duh!
The Enemy often lies in God’s name, but those of good heart ask questions and find the truth. Others follow the Liar eagerly because he strokes their base desires. We are seeing this very plainly now.
It’s really quite simple. This beautiful planet will become the home it was designed to be. God never fails. But he does allow us free will. If we choose well, good things will come, in due time.
Other pertinent verses: Proverbs 2:1-15, Luke 4:5-8, Matthew 6:9, 10, and Revelation 11:16-18. This theme runs through the Bible from beginning to end.
Don't even need the Bible. If we follow the Ten Commandments we'd be okay. Let's see, the president-elect worships money, he bears false witness, he steals, he covets, he does not love our neighbors, he's committed adultery, and he's murdered 100,000+ people (by denying the existence of covid). And some people think he's gonna be good for this country. Nut jobs.
Umm… those Ten Commandments are in the Bible. And are an excellent summation of God’s wisdom for living. But my comment was more about what God says He will do, which we can’t do for ourselves. We can’t kill the Enemy. We must resist him, but that’s not enough to be rid of him.
The first three commandments are important. Allowing the Enemy to effectively be a god “alongside” God is a huge mistake. Ascribing power to false gods (images) misleads us into false faith. Politicians are such images. And deeply respecting the true God (#3) is a foundation of wisdom, as Proverbs 1:7 says. Just be careful that the Enemy hasn’t sold you a counterfeit “true god.”
I totally understand the Ten Commandments are in the Bible. I'm saying you can study the Bible if you want, but you just need to follow the Ten Commandments and you'll be doing what is good. We have free will. We can do what's good or we don't have to. Whichever we choose, though, there will be consequences. We are right now seeing the consequences of choosing poorly.
Keeping it real at public notice. I've grown up in America my whole life. I'm now 51. And 8tveasbt until I lived abroad that it finally occurred to me how many self absorbed provincial imbeciles there are in our country. Don't get me wrong, I've found friends here and all over the world and I'm a happy man. But this article reminded me what un-sophisticated and utterly accommodating sycophants many on our supposed elite culture actually are. It puts the conviction of the 1940s and the accomplishments of the greatest generation in perspective. And frankly it helps explain what happened this year and the arrogance of the leadership in the democratic party, who effectively scuttled kamalas best chances to win imho. Biden has done some great things but his presidency will be remembered for its laughabke Attorney General and for sleepwalking is right into the DJTV2 mess. Nothing to be reverent and proud about on balance. Americans are prone to immature hubris and a sense of grandeuer that they haven't earned. We're about to havto earn it again this coming year. Those of us with conviction who actually give a shit are going to be challenged by the flaccid behavior of the so called cultural elites in this country who are constantly lazy in their adherence to the principles of our own constitution. I wish there were more intellectuals of conviction and integrity leading this country and it's culture but the fact that these types people (pandering to DJTV2 sentiments) are not actively engaged with the rest of us preparing to resist this insurrection in our own ways… well that explains where we are.
Watching our current oligarchs jump on the bandwagon after what we saw on display at Madison Square Garden was a kind of embarrassment I haven't felt since I was first traveling abroad seeing how my fellow Americans behaved. Many of the so-called cultural leaders in this country are actuakky just self absorbed assholes.
What we're going to have to go through to restore the famously pluralist culture our ancestors helped create post WW II (I hope we can) is going to distinguish those truly devoted to American ideals from the rest of the assholes in a cruise ship vacation only pretending to bare about others ‘for appearances.’ ill never understand these types of people.
In some ways these flaccid turncoats are actually worse than the tyrants because they're so goddamn phony and incredulous at the same time. Why they're tolerated as such a big part of our culture I'll never understand. If anyone can point me to a few great reads on this topic I'd be much appreciated. I find the topic so exhausting I can't bother to pursue it any further. Please LMK your take…
Thanks for the devoted people like Aaron and others here on substack. Finally got my subscription sorted this week.
People like Liz Cheney deserve nothing but adulation. If you don't stand with Liz what the hell do you stand for? Invading Greenland? How could the educated among us in this country not see that (and many other difficult and embarrassing challenges to well established norms of decency and democracy in this country) coming? We have a lot of restoration work ahead.
It seems we have more than one problem. Trump is the major one. I am convinced he would still be even if Harris had won, but with power he is much much worse and we are seeing this. He's got people working for him. The electorate is another problem. We know Trump, the electorate should have known when they went to vote. But they did not.. they either rationalized, disbelieved, were selfish, vengeful themselves what with the lies and propaganda ( which is continuing). So I am very concerned about how we continue this democracy despite the words of encouragement and the pep talks from many. We are in trouble. Sorry to say this.
Trump's retribution is what this Cheney business is about. There is *no end* to it. Trump must be stopped.Trump's success in this, even just the harassment to fulfill his promise/need of retribution and then Trump will move on to the next victim.
Next on our list of problems is the media. They are not helping resist strongly enough. The NYTimes is infuriating, not wanting to seem biased. So are the others, fearful of Trump's power and his vengefulness. This adds to Trump's power. *This is the time, people, to stand up to Trump*. Trump does not have complete power. Not yet. We have to be vigilant. We have to use all the tools we have... we are still the majority in this country - or so I believe.
This is painful to read - almost nauseating. The sick irony is that maga is using the Karl Rove playbook of attacking and distorting the strength of your political opponent. This is strategy Rove used to put the fool W Bush and his puppet master VP Cheney into the White House. It has come full circle. It brings back the almost unbearable plight of Don Siegelman at the hand of Karl Rove. Siegelman went from legitimately elected governor of Alabama to a convicted criminal who served years in prison based on Rove's labyrinth of lies, while dems stood silently by and the media played along. It can happen again if we let it.
Great article, once again explaining the bias of legacy media. I no longer have cable so I was watching a network TV show on a streaming service (with ads) the last couple of days. I constantly saw an ad for 60 minutes and in it, they showed Trump seated for an interview and being asked if he was ready for some tough questions. The ad also showed Biden with the interviewer asking about the highest inflation in 40 years. So yes, not only is there bias in media articles, but even in their ads for their programs.
This article lays it out exactly as it is. And I feel like main stream media has become so corrupted, so fearful, so complicit with trump and the coming storm that his administration will bring, that it’s going to be impossible to get any kind of objective coverage of what is actually happening. I don’t have a television so I don’t watch any of mainstream media, I mostly rely on Public Notice and its writers and I stream NPR and PBS, occasionally the BBC. But as I read this article and observe the corruption and the acquiescence of the mainstream media to trump, and to his incoming circus of bad actors, I can’t help draw the parallels to the Third Reich, and what happened in Germany. And I also think about Cambodia and the things that happened there, the eradication of the fine arts, the eradication of highly educated people. Call me crazy, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to imagine that if trump is in power long enough or people like him, we are going to see the demise of this country. We’re still fairly young country and it’s shocking to me how fast we have lost our way.
I thought journalists were free thinkers, or people who value the truth, and reporting it as truth more than they value their own lives. But the newspapers and their writers have folded like cheap suits, and it is disheartening and disgusting. In my own way, I’m pushing back, I will not be silent, I will not go along with conversations that uplift the incoming people, and the menace that they are to most of the lives in this country. And I continue to be amazed and horrified at the way people have voted against their own best interests.
What’s more important is the fact that Cheney was on the Congressional Investigation Committee. She wasn’t acting as a lawyer, just an investigator, so this whole idea that she interfered with her attorney client privilege is ludicrous.
Yet, the lamestream media, with its overpriced talent; or lack thereof, has proven once again that when “going gets tough,” they fold faster than a cheap lounge chair.
Journalistic ethics has become an oxymoron! They all wrote their own obituaries, and just haven’t gotten the memo yet. Sadly, when we needed them most, they were on vacation! And it’s an expensive vacation, so to speak!…:)
No better reasons then this posting are needed to support why I became an early subscriber. We want credible news not what corporate boardrooms decide is news and how they want to report said news.
Interesting … and on point … observation. And it begs the question: All this “crimewashing” (great coinage), does anyone besides MAGA House members actually read this stuff? And wasn’t Loudermilk credibly accused of welcoming pre-rioters of inspecting the place of future riot?
Articles like this why I subscribed to PN. I did see the recent light mention in mainstream media regarding Liz Cheney being a target. That was not enough. We need keep this issue in front of us and keep her safe. We also need be on lookout for who’s next on the list. Publicly calmly advacating for protection without contributing to violence. The hard work. Thank you For bring to our attention Stephen.
It's hard to beat the disinformation catch n kill Machine the RepublicSCAMS have formed, but being lazy or giving in, is just unforgivable. We should have no use for lazy or passive democrat politicians. That is how we got here. The Biden Administration wasn't tough. The "truth will set us free" attitude doesn't cut it in these days. With constant disinformation being fed to half the country and worse the young less knowledgeable, most immpressionable of our society. Merrick Garland is another example of weakness and worrying about "how's it gonna look?" Did the RepublicSCAM Congress worry about what it looks like in their fraudulent failed Biden investigations? Or their over zealous attacks on Hunter Biden? They created a Biden Crime organization, and it worked. It's a new world out there politically and the Dems better wise up and figure out how to beat the Disinformation Machine and quick. Start by working every day. No weeks off. This is a crises and a all hands on deck emergency.
As an editor, writer, and once-upon-a-time journalist (8 years on a weekly newspaper, 25 years ago), I'm at a loss to explain the total inability and/or unwillingness of the legacy/mainstream media to explain what's going on. I can't blame it all on corporate ownership or advertising revenue or crappy education or the demise of the "fairness doctrine." What do these reporters, editors, and publishers see when they look at themselves in the mirror? Anything?
I keep thinking it's this crop of journalists, this generation. The older journalists are leaving. The young have careers to build and protect. The ideals and responsibilities of journalism in this country as it relates vitally to democracy and its vitality is not there.. it's importance. It's entertainment and distraction. Is truth telling journalism not rewarded in corporate media; it does not serve their interest? Is the news is too much a business? A place to get ads in front of readers?
It's always been a business, but now its a different kind of business. What is important to report seems too often in the hands of "journalistic immaturity"... rookies.
So I do blame it on a combination of what you mention.. plus the culture today, denial distraction in the face of existential problems that cannot or will not be solved. ???
When is President Biden going to issue pardons for Liz Cheney? We’re all wondering. And Adam Kinsinger, Cassidy Hutchison, Juan Merchan, and the others on Mump’s hit list?
I have been a staunch Biden defender, but I will be incensed if he does not use his presidential immunity to rock some shit here at the end. Enough of this highbrow nice guy approach- he needs to get down to fixing things before he leaves!

Frankly I hope he just dies soon. He's inspired a generation of baby tyrants and a selfish culture that we will be forever apologizing for abroad.
God help us in our resistance. (Is what I meant.)
Oh, you’ve hit the nail on the head exactly! 🎯🎯🎯
Which god? The evangelicals? The Roman Catholic Church’s? The god of the Southern Baptists? Which of the 1000s of gods?
(Sorry, DebbieM, if you were just saying a saying.)
Any or all of those gods would be fine with me. However, I could understand if they don't help us because we got ourselves into this disgusting mess and we're on our own to get us out.

Personally, I I think of "God" more as The One Great Light who shines above and behind every other being who is worshipped as "god".
