Thank you. I have been saying this is a story about lack of good gun control laws in Florida, and it should be tied to DeSatan and the way he runs his state, instead of making it another vehicle for giving Trump attention when he was not shot and and no one attempted to shoot him. Someone just may have had the opportunity, but Trump is fine. I also think it is a story about Christian Nationalists. The part where we know that in response to other people getting shot and killed and JDV is a cold fish about it Andra Watkins, who is knowledgable both about Christian Nationalism and about Project 2025 can explain it. She claims that one, it is about forcing suffering on people, so they get closer to God, and that JDV actually believes that God makes no mistakes, so get over being upset about God's will.

Since it is rumored that JDV wants to take over from DT if they get elected by using Article 25 to claim mental incompetence, we should be thinking about what having a Christian Nationalists as president will mean for us.

Vance seems more of a threat than Trump. But more than Vance I worry about the vulnerability of our voters. But more than the vulnerability of our voters I worry about the the scheming to game the vote in favor of the MAGARepublicans. But more than that I feel sure the result will be the violence if they don't succeed in forcing their win and also if they do.

I don't know where you get this rumor about JDV Article 25 but it's possible of course but that is another thing that will bring the coming unrest. I don't wish it, but I think it will happen. The fever pitch is building.

Hi Potter, I read the rumor about JDV on a Substack when he was first announced as Trump's VP. Then, more recently Heather Cox Richardson mentioned it on her Substack. Sorry. I read that Peter Thiel put him in place as VP in order for him to do that. So, the spector of DT or JDV or MJ running the USA makes my blood run cold. None is a better choice than the other.

Have to say I laughed out loud at "This is not someone operating with a coherent political philosophy." Understatement is a very effective form of irony. Ryan Routh is so obviously unfit to own a firearm. Would he have been denied a permit in states other than Florida? I wonder.

What I find so utterly disingenuous about the Republican posturing in all of this, is the fact that in their mouth-foaming efforts to resist even the most modest of gun control measures, they have been arguing in virtually every mass shooting incident that the shooter was deranged, crazy, could not have been foreseen by screening, etc etc etc, and that the time to "politicize" the incident was "not now". But as soon as one of those deranged, unforeseeable crazies points the gun at their Cult Leader, it's (a) political, (b) foreseeable thanks to politics, and (c) those politics have nothing to do with their own mouth-foaming efforts. Party of personal responsibility indeed.

PS: Excellent article.

Is it just me, or does it seem the Republicans are starting to run out of ideas in their "blaming the Democrats" for everything?

A rogue, arguably mentally challenged white dude who should be nowhere near a rubberband gun let alone an AK-47 wannabe sits in wait for 12 hours in order to take a shot at 45, and the best that Republican candidates for office have in the way of explanation is the likes of "these events are all because of Border Czar Kamala Harris's failed efforts to prevent millions and millions of undocumented immigrants from shit-hole foreign countries nobody has ever heard of from crossing our open borders and violent rhetoric?!?"

I'm still not convinced this whole thing wasn't a hoax set up by Trump to do what he always does to get sympathy - play the victim.

This is all about Florida gun laws and DeSantis and his support of this "freedom". But the blamegamers got out there first with their spin as usual. The gun loving folks love to blame mental illness, not the guns. But we don't have checks on that. The system has no way to check nor it seems an understanding of the undiagnosed mental health issues that people have. I assume most are undiagnosed. There is no way of telling which person with a gun will act. This attempt and surely others to come, is about the guns in the hands of practically anyone who wants one and specifically especially in Florida. Florida loves Trump, the inciter of violence for years. Florida law enforcement should protect him around his golf courses and elsewhere in the state as he shoots is mouth off. The state should pay for protection and the consequences.

"In Florida, residents do not have to have a permit to buy handguns, rifles, or shotguns. Additionally, there is no requirement to register a firearm nor is there for owners to get a license or have a permit to carry a rifle or shotgun. There is, however, a requirement for Floridians to have a permit to carry a handgun."

"If you hold a Concealed Weapon and Firearm License (CWFL), you can carry a loaded handgun in your private vehicle with no restriction as long as the firearm remains concealed."

Look up Florida Gun laws
