I worked for 30 years in state schools as a school psychologist and one of the things that people don't realize is just how frightened the vast majority of teachers are of taking a political stance. They know that most political opinions are split around 50-50 which means they'll almost certainly be at least one parent who will complain to the principal. What Tim Walz did took real guts and I think we can almost guarantee that his principal received complaints. People who hate homosexuality are really committed campaigners and there would have been stacks of them around 20-30 years ago. God knows there's plenty of them today!. Tim Walz is a seriously brave guy. How the hell did he get into successful mainstream politics?
In Trumpworld, if someone’s got a story like this to tell in their background, you’d be able to count on the evidence to roll in about it being made up or greatly exaggerated. This so far hasn’t happened in Walz’s case. He appears to be the real deal. Literally has the street cred and resume bonifides for standing up for the voiceless. If people can’t relate personally to the support of LGBTQI aspect, I hope the energy around authenticity and representation breaks through at the DNC. That’s what I’m rooting for.
As a formerly bullied gay kid in high school, I’m in awe of Walz and the stand he took during his HS teacher years. That support could have changed the entire trajectory of a kid’s life. One wonders how a Log Cabin Republican type still justifies supporting MAGA, who will surely take action to harm LGBTQI if power is handed to Trump.
GOP smears notwithstanding, Tim Walz is one the most incredible picks for VP that I've seen in my lifetime. He brings an energy and excitement back to Democratic politics that I had thought all but extinguished. He reminds me of the very BEST teachers my kids had in their school years - the ones that brought the energy, excitement, enthusiasm, and desire to impart knowledge every day. With Tim Walz in office, our country will thrive and prosper regardless of Republican obstruction.
This is the model. Tim Walz is the epitome of honesty, decency, kindness, inclusion, and bravery. He is also an incredibly effective and successful governor with an unrivaled record of passing laws that benefit and protect working class folks of every ethnicity and every gender. He's done this without ever using his office to enrich himself. If he can make it to the top in politics, there is real hope. Let this be our standard going forward.
As the mother of a sports-loving, athletic gay son, I can only imagine how much good it would have done for him to have a coach like Tim Walz in high school. People who are willing to stand up for kindness and tolerance and ignore the whining parents (I'm sure there were many) are heroes. He and Kamala are the contrast to the nonstop hate of the GOP that was so desperately needed.
Tim Walz is single-handedly showing how mean spirited, nasty and vindictive MAGA’s campaign is by recounting his efforts to bring together gays and straights in his high school. Great contrast. Actually I haven’t seen many items in the media from MAGAts lately about “woke” issues lately. Could it be that this aspect of the campaign from MAGA will gradually fade away as 11/5 approaches? Naaah! Diaperload won’t let it happen since that’s what he is the most comfortable talking about, that and Kamala’s picture on the cover of Time.

I grew up in rural Iowa. In the 80’s & 90’s. That Walz started a gsa in 1999, in rural MN, is a big, bfd.
