In his deranged mind, he never loses. He seems to be regressing into a toddler who screams and cries to get what he wants. And the world of grown ups has to pacify him by pretending to to give it to him. All the world knows he got played except for him and his maga cult. If we make it through, historians will spend centuries trying to explain how a sick, sadistic, insane toddler in chief came to rule our nation.
Well, if he wanted to be remembered in the history books, he certainly is well on his way. After the last term he was given the honor of being in the last 5 worst presidents ever. After this term, he will definitely be remembered as the worst.
I will say this for the man, he certainly is racking up the list of the most firsts.
1. The first to suggest that Canada and Greenland should be part of America.
2. The first to deport (or relocate) people from their own country (Gaza).
3. The first Superbowl attendee ( although he probably didn't get enough publicity and extra shots-Mahomes takes the prize for that).
4. The first convicted felon and sexual predator, and thief to be knowingly elected president. 5. I think he probably was the first president to feature Goya products on the resolute desk as well as hawking fake money, sneakers, bibles made in China, over priced watches, statues of himself holding a flag, etc.
Last week in California, Trump pointlessly wasted critical irrigation water to pull off a political stunt. Water accumulated over rainy months to allow farmers to grow crops during the dry season that would have fed people. As the rainy season ends, there is little possibility that water will be replenished in time to be useful during this year's growing season.
This week, Trump pointlessly wasted American goodwill and soft power to pull off a political stunt by threatening a pointless trade war. Goodwill that was accumulated over decades, partly at the cost of American lives, and that will be next to impossible to replace as other countries get the lesson that America will always be one election away from a tyrant who can do whatever he wants, to whoever he wants, and expect total subservience. There is little possibility that that reservoir of soft power will be replenished at all, as our one-time allies seek safe haven with a superpower that does not promise to bully them, over and over, at the whim of Trump.
Trump is a showman, a TV huckster who loves the approval of "his people". The Presidency of the United States is just another show to him, and everything from irrigation water to national goodwill is a prop.
On "The Apprentice", if he broke something he'd just get the backstage crew to replace it, or rewrite the script to do without. He hasn't discovered yet that the United States has no backstage. Will he ever realize that he's ultimately responsible for everything? Will he care? I hope so, but I don't hold out much hope that this self-centered man-child will learn any lessons from anything. He will go to his grave someday thinking he was the best person who ever lived.
Our USAID, which costs about 1% of our budget, is a soft power tool. Countries will remember how we helped their people with food, getting water, medical supplies, etc. These countries probably will think kindly towards us and give us better trade deal.
What people don't realize is that China also has such a program, belt and Road, in 150 countries and organizations. We leave, China comes in and is the hero.
Just a couple of clarifications: the BC premier is David Eby, and our liquor stores are provincially run - not state run. (At least not yet and hopefully never!)
While the idiot chief is basking in his trade glory, the co-president is wreaking havoc at the Treasury Department with his teenage minion. Please deport him to Mars.
I am just BOGGLED by how far the US has descended in two weeks.
Fuck you very much, stupid Americans who bought the BS that orange shitgibbon was selling. And a big fuck you to those who just couldn’t trust a brown woman and voted for Trump or just fucking stayed home.
This was predictable for those with half a brain. Trump voters have half a brain between every five of them.
He gives himself the “biglyist” pats on the back- gotta keep the massive ego inflated! Now that he is making sure that these two important countries will no longer trust us, what is next?
Great column. I'm starting to think this, along with the insane Gaza comments yesterday, are all chaff to distract us from the real damage, Elon Musk and his ongoing wave of pretend destruction. I only say pretend because this none of this is legal but by the time the courts finally catch up (see Trump prosecution's) it will be too late. That said, I could easily be convinced that Trump is a megalomaniac, so high on his power that he thinks he's now America's Emperor. If statues start going up, be afraid.

all true, but you barely scratched the surface
Felon 47 wouldn't know "flawless" if it walked up and smacked him in the face.
Trump Triumphantly Maintains Status Quo
Trump Backs Down Again

Don is the stupidest person alive and I'll never forgive anyone who voted for him.

TY.
Jon Stewart pointed out on the Daily Show that Trump was railing against the trade agreement that HE negotiated during his last term.
My theory is that Trump is dying and wants to inflict as much damage as he can before he does.
Could someone please put this lunatic out of his misery.
And us.

Great article, thanks!
Trump claims bullshit "victory" to hide the fact that he's an idiot and a con man who treats our neighbors horribly!
Saco wea is the Chilean term for Trump.
He gives himself the “biglyist” pats on the back- gotta keep the massive ego inflated! Now that he is making sure that these two important countries will no longer trust us, what is next?
Yup—exactly right: Donald Trump brings a Gotti-style protection racket to Washington.
Does anyone wonder what JD is up to? They must have SOME evil deed in the wings for him, right?
