Those of us who are the opposition are still mourning, taking a break from our outrage, and trying to live our lives right now. It has been EXHAUSTING trying to fight this movement. To stay sane, many of us still can’t talk about the election. So please be patient.
So true. Also, as a retiree on a fixed income, who has donated generously to organizations supporting women's reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigrant rights in the past, I am very concerned about losing both Social Security and Medicare. We've been cutting back on all expenses, and saving every penny due to fear of inflation, and possible recession. These next four years are shaping up to deliver widespread suffering to the vulnerable.
Trump is a front-man carnival barker & nothing more. He’s not good at anything. Each EO was written by somebody; who was it and how are they connected to the broligarchs? Please start sidelining TFG for coverage of the horrible cabinet members who work for the Heritage Foundation and religious groups. He’s the biggest smoke & mirrors operation ever executed. Don’t fall for it. Treat TFG like the ‘paid spokesperson’ he is.
Agree that people will tire (again) of Trump soon, a short honeymoon as you predict. Not so certain they’ll turn, though. Remember the kids in cages? Despicable … but accepted by these same “people.”
Good article. Do not discount the importance of calling or writing your elected representatives. Every member of the House and one third of US Senators are up for election in 2026. Calling your representatives’ offices takes a couple of minutes. Call frequently. They work for us. Don’t forget that and don’t let them forget it.
Yes, thank you! We may be able to reverse and/or mitigate some of the most egregious stuff in just TWO years. Take a break, if you need to for your mental health, but be ready to reengage sooner than later ... We can do this!
Noah, you paint a picture of hope and I hope you are correct. But, I fear that the ones who voted to elect trump will never figure out that he is only in the business of supporting trump--not them. And Bezos , Zuckerberg and Silicon Valley greedsters like Marc Andreesen, wil continue to press for the measures that line their pockets and advance their "fame."
But like you and others I keep hoping and will continue to support honorable politicians and companies and say bye--bye to those who can only think of themselves and not the good of the country and its citizens.
Yes. But shockingly enough some polls report that HIS POLICIES are more popular than he is! I’m wondering what it is that’s so popular: internment camps; tax breaks for those who don’t need them; pardoning insurrectionists; using the military to quell protests; or is it just “owning the libs”? So many choices.
People will tire of Trump but will be stuck with him. I am worrying about financial ruin myself. I can imagine how it could be for others who have also retired.
I am so disturbed by Americans focusing on the racism and anti-Semitism of others when right at home it is rampant. That is what got Trump into power is people being anti-immigrant, and actually anti-Brown and Black people, but also against sharing American prosperity with others. Trump represents the stingy. The people who do not want to share. These are people who should have gone to Kindergarten where one learns to share.
So under Trump the stingy billionaires who will not want to share the burden of supporting the society with the rest of us, and will get out of paying their fair share of taxes will not be blamed if Trump is successfully able to tell his supporters that it is someone else's fault. I am saddened by Democrats capitulating to Trump's stingy, selfish, mean spirited, evil and corrupt agenda, and hope that there are still Democrats who insist that he follow the laws and stand up to him.
I will be writing to my elected representatives letting them know how I feel. I know others will too, and they will be warned that if they legislate like Republicans we will replace them.
What really stings is maintaining my personal opposition to Trump while watching so many people and institutions I've financially supported (Gallego, Fetterman, The Post) all preemptively bow down. I expected Musk to be Musk, was only shocked by the degree to which Zuck and Bezos prostrated themselves, that so many others then felt the need to go along in abeyance of whatever morals they still had left is - well, it's nauseating. And deeply dispiriting.
Noah, please reconsider saying that Colorado Governor and Senator Schumer bowed to Trump. I clicked on the links. Let’s be careful. Please don’t jump to hate on our allies. We need to stick together.
This is the trouble with accepting the result of a compromised election is that it makes it seem like Trump has a mandate, rather than that he won due to a coordinated campaign of election interference and systematically suppressing, discarding, and removing votes. There's no way Trump could've carried seven swing states without it - he cheated.
A mandate is not what he has. We need to keep pushing back on that. The Electoral College results look like a landslide win, but he got just under 50% of the popular vote!
An even less disheartening way to look at it is that only 63.9% of the VEP (Voting-eligible population) voted. That means that the ca. 50/50 results were really 31.59% of US voters for Trump, and 30.66% for Harris. That leaves 36% of eligible voters who didn’t vote, which is incomprehensible to me and probably 99.79% of the subscribers to this Substack! We need to strain every nerve and little grey cell to come up with a whole new way of reaching those people, or even a few percentage points’ worth of them.

I couldn’t be more disgusted w fetterman and gallego and they can go to hell, I’ll never give those cynical unprincipled polls another dime. It’s one thing to posture as a practical pol willing to work with GOP for the greater good a la Polis(he praised RFKs supposed desire to crack down on corp poison in our food which I fully support. If the FDA had less corp capture they would have banned cancerous/ ADHD worsening food dyes sooner than they did (last week)and charlatans like RFK would get less traction) Fetterman and Gallego are giving trump/gop deportation super powers that will harm innocent black and brown people. Schumer sounds like he was being sarcastic or making a point in contrasting policy goals-vanity/ego v practical good of lowering prices.

Thank you, LJP. This is what my friends and I are doing. We need to refill our energy banks and maintain our resilience. ❤️
LJP, that is so true🥺💔🤢

Not just accepted, but celebrated by far too many

High water mark. Isn’t his approval rating already underwater? I thought I saw 44-49 recently
You're right, Leu. I changed the sub-headline.

I can only hope the news orgs actually report this stuff, but at least we have Substack!
“Trump dances” … this is a fat old man trying to do The Twist.

But please reconsider whether Trans really is Gay Rights 2.0.
Enlightened Europe has changed its mind on this issue-

The US medical establishment seems to be in the pocket of Big Pharma on this issue-

This really should be a human rights issue on which liberals can join with moderate Conservatives. In fact they are!

https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2025/01/un-expert-welcomes-us-court-ruling-reaffirming-sex-based-protections
Is it possible to recognise that President Trump is actually right on this issue?
Yes, let's not play into MAGAts' divisive games or propaganda!
They WANT to divide us...
