I can't work out why the mainstream media aren't reporting on Trump's unfitness, incompetence and tempremental unsuitability. It's as clear as day....a very nasty day.
They care more about the horse race than reporting fairly on the election. They bend over backwards to appear neutral even though their columnists remind us, for clicks, that nothing about a Trump campaign is normal. They're also deathly afraid of losing access and insider status should Trump win again.
Gail Collins of the NY Times accidentally gave us an insight into the double standard of our mainstream “liberal” media, a standard that they think is normal and perfectly justified. This is from one of her recent weekly conversations with conservative columnist Bret Stephens. I don’t have a Times subscription but luckily Kevin Drum posted her outrageous claim:
“ Let us hold Donald Trump to normal standards of conduct. Please.
“ Bret: I’m still where I was last week: waiting for Harris to persuade me to vote for her. What’s wrong with asking her to sit down for a one-on-one interview with a serious journalist who will ask some tough but reasonable questions about urgent public policy matters? The same, of course, should be done with Trump.
Gail: You know I’m not gonna tell you that Harris is doing enough serious interviews with national reporters. She’s not. Neither, obviously, is Trump, but we have a right to hold her to a higher standard.” “
First, Aaron - thank you always for your coverage of Trump, Vance and MAGA - if it weren't for you work, we would know far less about the holy hell that Trump and his billionaire backers will unleash if given the power.
Second, we can take this knowledge and spread the word to make sure it does not happen which is why my GenZ daughter and I launched Donuts+Democracy🍩🗳️ a few days ago!
🍩We have already partnered with 29 colleges (and counting) in battleground states/districts and HBCUs with more being added every day. The premise is simple - students host a GOTV event - Your Donut - Your Vote - Your Future - and we fund the donuts.
🗳️We test-piloted this program in 2022 midterms in NV and it was magic. College kids love free donuts even more than TikTok and provide an easy, fun way to connect, register, and inform students about the importance of their vote! And at $2 a donut is the most effective and least expensive GOTV strategy. Plus young voters are the key to winning and have the most room for growth.
🍩 To learn more and support our efforts (we need to raise $30K in 7 days and in 3 days hrs have raised $17,500!):
Thank you! We’d be so grateful if you’d spread the word - we have a ways to go in our fundraising and have schools signing up everyday. (We’ve been so impressed by all the college students who are so motivated to register and engage their peers while also juggling school - we really don’t want to turn away any 🍩+🗳️ for lack of funding.)
Welp, that was a real downer as I opened my email today. Frankly, it's terrifying. I appreciate the work you do and hope endlessly that this long nightmare for our country will be over soon. Watching Vance last night, with his sociopathic slickness and attempted charm "well, I actually agree with Tim on that" I felt sick that others would see him as the winner of the debate because Walz started rough and is not as polished. Referring to him as Tim, not Governor, not Mr. Walz, Tim, was disrespectful. I think him as president might be more terrifying than Trump. He's obviously smarter.
Did you see this outrageous admission by Gail Collins? I don't have a subscription to the NY Times but saw this on Kevin Drum’s site:
“ At the New York Times, Bret Stephens and Gail Collins take up their weekly conversation:
Bret: I’m still where I was last week: waiting for Harris to persuade me to vote for her. What’s wrong with asking her to sit down for a one-on-one interview with a serious journalist who will ask some tough but reasonable questions about urgent public policy matters? Gail: You know I’m not gonna tell you that Harris is doing enough serious interviews with national reporters. She’s not. Neither, obviously, is Trump, but we have a right to hold her to a higher standard.
Wait. Say that again?
Neither, obviously, is Trump, but we have a right to hold her to a higher standard.
Why should the New York Times hold Harris to a higher standard than Trump? Isn't that sort of our whole problem, that Trump isn't held to anything within spitting distance of normal human standards? Maybe now is a good time to start.”
Maybe that attitude explains why the media didn’t bother covering Trump’s horrifying speech. Watching the clips you posted made me really afraid that Trump is seriously unwell and we could wind up with President Vance, the puppet of far right billionaire tech bros. The dockworkers strike adds to my concern.
All along, the press has ignored Trump's increasing extremism and mental decline. Maybe they're afraid of lawsuits if they report accurately. I think it's quite likely.
Seems like White males who are incompetent and/or inexperienced garner more trust than experienced and competent Black women. That JD Vance gave his speech last night planning to take over from Trump is not escaping notice. I did not watch it since I am in a different time zone, but read about it this morning. It is stressful and demoralizing to realize that the race is so close and Gen Z men are swinging conservative. I am hoping that things still turn out well, but we need people to know more about Project 2025 and how it will effect their lives.
It certainly doesn't hurt if those men are also rich. Americans have a great love for moneyed white guys, which explains why the befuddled Trump is actually trusted by more Americans on the issue of the economy, despite his harebrained idea to replace income tax with tariffs.
And, apparently, it won't matter to Trump whether or not we elect Kamala Harris with an overwhelming landslide majority--because, if Trump doesn't win, he won't concede anyway. He'll claim massive cheating and try to muck up the the playing field and churn that field into a muddy mess; the chaos in which he delights.
Trump is completely unfit to be president, and JD Vance is completely unqualified to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. The choice in this election could not be more clear.
If Putin’s MAGA Republicans successfully seize the election, they’ll probably use the 25th Ammendment on Trump shortly after January 20th, installing “Pope JD the First.”
Blaming immigrants for the pains of society isn't new. Are we going to do this for another 100 years? Why isn't there discussions about owners and CEO's who advertise in other countries for labor workers to come here? Look at Purdue. Factory owners do not want immigration fixed. We are fed lies by stock buying politicians every day to busy covering their own asses.
The thing with JD, foxhole Norman, he was calling Agent Orange a nutjob two years ago. How does someone completely flip like that? He was bought. That was easy.
Walz was being Walz last night. He's not hateful or filled with victimized resentments. He's not protecting white privilege. He is compassionate about people. The other guy leaned into "I know you guys don't like me, let me spin this for you." A master manipulator doing his thing. He will snap the rug out from underneath you, then sell the rug and tell you it's your fault.
MAGA voters are not reading these newsletters. Fox and other right leaning media are not reporting these irrational rallies. Undecideds are waiting for some great revelation at a debate which are highly scripted and leave out all the insane backstory. You can not just tune in 34 days before the election and understand what we are facing if Trump gets back in the White House. He is a doddering old fool who is pulling the Project2025 bandwagon into the presidency so they can attack from within. And JDV is fantasizing how he will push Trump to the sidelines and take over the Oval office. In 33 days we have a life changing election and many of the voters are going into this poorly informed.
I don't get what use it is to tell people in small towns about things they can see with their own eyes aren't happening. Is the idea that folks will just think "its ok here but next town over, wow!"? or are there enough migrants in enough small towns to just make everyone hate their neighbors?
One has to wonder if, in last night’s debate, Vance was even more shameless: He *knows* that if Trump is re-elected, his tenure would be shortened by his now-visible deterioration. A short, sorry route to the presidency … but without the burden of a president’s campaigning.
“[N]othing was put aside...” He meant to say “I fucked up massively and trashed the whole pandemic preparedness system we had carefully put in place” before he showed up to wreck the government. There, fixed that for him.
I came to the comments to agree with HH and ML. I wanted to thank you guys for your reporting. You really do a great job and I appreciate getting actual facts for a change!

Because he is their cash cow. And to render him useless would lose them a lot of ink.

Inexperienced, incompetent white men get more trust than highly experienced women of any race. The media’s treatment of Hillary in 2016 proved that.
It certainly doesn't hurt if those men are also rich. Americans have a great love for moneyed white guys, which explains why the befuddled Trump is actually trusted by more Americans on the issue of the economy, despite his harebrained idea to replace income tax with tariffs.
Some Americans do. More and more are getting turned off by what rich White guys are standing for in Trump.
I agree. It is high time for a woman to be president of the USA.
And, apparently, it won't matter to Trump whether or not we elect Kamala Harris with an overwhelming landslide majority--because, if Trump doesn't win, he won't concede anyway. "derp, hate and despair" —lol.
well done, guys, and scary as hell.

A GOP friend sent me this the other day. I expect they found it online somewhere, and thought it worth sharing.

Really, 4 likes? It's insanity to believe that Trump would do ANY of these things.
Maybe the likes are they just appreciate knowing what his supporters are thinking? Without having to actually visit their postings themselves?
The prospect of "President Vance" scares me enough to become an ex-pat.
